The project dubbed, Project DTA (Development Through Arts) is geared at building a community of young and creative artists, who feel responsible for each other and empowered to lead positive change in their communities through Arts and Literacy.
Describing the state of arts education of the school, the Leader of Project and the Information and Communications technology (ICT) teacher of the school, Portia Dzamvivie revealed that the “Posmonu D/A JHS has no cupboards for keeping art materials, exercise, reading, story books, and other relevant books. As a result, procured resources are either stolen or misused by strangers ”. “The JHS block has no notice boards for displaying outstanding art works and other vital information. Important information are posted on the walls of the classroom block, which makes the walls unattractive and dirty. The block also has broken windows and broken door locks”. She added. This, according to her, has necessitated the group to embark on the project to help alleviate the plight of the school.
The development through arts initiative project will include an after school teaching and mentorship program and the provision of resources to include bookshelves, stationery, new windows and door locks for classrooms. Others include the construction of well-furnished cupboards to keep art materials and books safe and clean. In addition, notice boards will be provided to help students display important information, beautiful and outstanding art works, and inspirational quotes will serve as daily motivational messages for students and patrons. This, according to Ms. Dzamvivie, will serve as a strong incentive for students and members of the Art and Literacy club (DTA) to produce their best work and facilitate constant reading.
“Using the notice board to create colorful and imaginative displays can provide a stimulating and educational atmosphere. Themes, topics of discussions and art related content can create a positive and fun learning environment”. She concluded.
