Over five hundred pupils from Takuve, Agortime, Ziope and other surrounding communities will now benefit from a school library that was furnished and commissioned by Motive8 global. In a move described by teachers as a huge sigh of relief, Motive8 Global has replaced all outmoded chalkboards with white boards and markers for the Takuve D/A Basic School in the Agortime-Ziope District of the Volta Region.

Prior to the project the school structures were in a deplorable state; a situation that impeded academic activities in the school. According to the lead Project Coordinator, Vida Konadu Agyeman, “there were several challenges being faced by the school especially threats posed by the continuous use of chalkboards and the degenerating nature of the school’s library over the years. Students and teachers were used to inhaling high amounts of dust particles that were produced through the use of chalks and chalkboards. Sometimes, the holes and dents formed on these cemented boards could make writing very difficult and uneasy. Teachers and students had to battle with incessant rubbing of eyes and cleaning of uniforms due to the chalk particles in the atmosphere after wiping the board”.

“Furthermore, the state of the school’s library was very deplorable and highly defaced. The effect of the library not being user friendly was coupled with reduced student interest and motivation to read, research and explore. About 10% of the student population used the library daily. Firstly, the library ceiling was ripped, and served as a host for bats and rodents who fed on and damaged the library books and materials with several other challenges confronting the school’s library”. She added. This initiative started after the school won a Motive 8 open application for community support- filed on their behalf by their Lead for Ghana (LFG) representatives.

Takuve D/A BAsic School which now has a greatly furnished, highly protected, well stocked and colorfully-designed library with marker boards installed in place of the old chalkboards for the Junior High school has seen a great and positive toll on the lives of teachers, students and the beneficiary communities. The realization of the project, again, has seen a lot of motivated-students troop into the library to read, explore and research. Unlike before, students are now making conscious efforts to explore the world, read wide, learn new words and build on their vocabulary. The head of the school expressed gratitude to Motive8 Global for coming to the aid of the school.  Takuve D/A Basic School has since its inception, served over eight neighbouring communities.
